The Greatest Arcade Game Player of an Era

December 12, 2007 · 4 Comments

Wow, I just found a trailer for a movie titled King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters that looks awesome. I thought I’d pass it along because it comes out on DVD in late January. The film is about the two best Donkey Kong players ever in a head-to-head battle twenty years after the game was at the height of its success. Looks like an instant classic.

This looks awesomely awesome! I’m assuming this is a documentary, eh? Watching the trailer made me yearn for those old school Nintendo games (perhaps it’s time to dust them off over the winter break). For some reason, watching this makes me think about the Guitar Hero episode of South Park–have you seen it? If not, you must, particularly in light of your recent (and great) Guitar Hero post. Thanks for sharing this!

I can tell it’s the end of the semester. The guy in the first shot looks just like my little brother when he was that age!! KES

Andy, based on your Media Literacy project and this recent post, it looks like you are rethinking video gaming?????

I’m glad to see you’re thinking about gaming and revisiting the discussion on your own time. Sofia

Ha… Sofia, I’ve never hated on video gaming, just certain types of video games. I’ve played video games most of my life–still do. I love video games. Last year I attended James Beach and Matt Fuentes’ session at the D.A.T.E. Conference on video games in ELA and was converted. I’m not a video game guru at the level of either of them, but I plan on incorporating video games into my classes.
